For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of serving others in the medical field. Caring for people has never been just a profession for me. It has always been a calling. Through every season of my career, God has continued to grow my heart for serving others with compassion, excellence, and love.
I have known our founder, Samuel D. Doolittle, for more than 20 years. Although life took us in different directions for a season, God brought our paths back together at exactly the right time. As we reconnected, I had the opportunity to hear the full story behind Healing Haven Home and learn about everything God did to transform one man’s pain into a purpose that is now changing countless lives.
What ultimately drew me to Healing Haven Home was not just Samuel’s testimony. It was his character. Over the years, I have watched him consistently put others before himself. His love for people is not something he turns on when others are watching. It is simply who he is.
One thing that has always stood out to me is that Samuel sees people differently. When he sees someone struggling, he does not see a stranger. He sees someone’s son, someone’s daughter, someone’s brother, or someone’s sister. His heart naturally leans toward compassion because he understands what it feels like to be overlooked and counted out. His first response is always to ask, “How can I help?” I have even watched him notice someone standing alone at a bus stop and immediately wonder if they needed help getting where they were going. That instinct to give is simply part of who he is. It is never about recognition. It is about seeing people the way Christ sees them.
His generosity extends far beyond moments like that. I have watched him faithfully feed people experiencing homelessness because he believes everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. I have seen him encourage people that others had written off and remind them that their past does not determine their future. He has an incredible ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved regardless of where they have been or what they have done.
Another thing that has inspired me is his determination. When God gave him the vision for Healing Haven Home, he did not allow a lack of experience to stop him. He learned how to renovate houses because he was committed to creating a place where men could experience hope, healing, and restoration. He has invested countless hours, made personal sacrifices, and remained faithful to the vision God placed in his heart. Watching that level of obedience and perseverance has only strengthened my belief that Healing Haven Home is truly a work of God.
As both a healthcare professional and the mother of an incredible son with autism, I have learned that real change happens when people are met with patience, grace, and unconditional love. Those experiences have shaped my own heart for serving others, which is why joining the Healing Haven Home team felt so natural. The mission aligns so closely with who I am and what I believe God has called me to do.
Healing Haven Home is much more than a recovery home. It is a place where hope is restored, families are rebuilt, and lives are transformed through the love of God. I am honored to serve as Administrative Coordinator and to support the incredible vision God has entrusted to Samuel. I truly believe the work being done here will not only change individual lives, but will impact families and generations for years to come.
